I have worked with dozens of contractors over the years of owning multiple homes and being the daughter of a contracting family. My roof was not a typical project. They had to strip the roof down to the pine tongue and groove cathedral ceilings and then build up a layer of installation then-new shingles. Complications arose along the way, but Scott's Roofing worked diligently to make it right. Great Job! It was time for a new roof. Like most people I got a few estimates and chose Scott’s for more than just the price. I met with them they explained start to finish the process and also were more than happy to answer any questions I had. From start to finish I can’t say enough about them, professional, courteous and efficient. I was sent updates about progress along with pictures, they were in constant contact with issues they found and showed me the problem (I’m a visual type person) so I knew before hand, they removed an old chimney that wasn’t used and even fixed the gutters. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell has a critical repair program which targets the elderly, veterans and disabled families that already own homes. Our goal is to perform repairs that will allow families to stay in their homes so we do things required for code enforcement, safety, handicap accessibility and weatherization. The family pays a reduced price for the services. One of the biggest needs is roofing. And we have been blessed to find yet another roofer who is willing to donate their time and product to help these families in need. SR Services/Scotts Roofing has an owner with a big heart and an awesome team! Sean and his staff are working with us to install roofs on several homes in the Greater Lowell area. Sean just finished a huge project for us for a family in Dracut where the woman suffered a life changing stroke 44 years ago at age 26. We noticed our older roof was deteriorating. However, didn't realize the severity until one morning we had buckets on our bedroom floor and puddles in our light fixture. I am writing this as a way to show my appreciation To SR Services Inc / Scott Roofing.
About a 10 months ago I was lucky enough to have Created this relationship. After the 1st of many storms last winter, I called and they had someone out right out to give me a quote.
Well you all know how last winter went!!
After figuring out my next moventry along came 110 inches of snow, Ice Dams.
I reached out to them when no one would take my call for snow removal off of my roof, at this point I have only worked with them on a quote to repair my roof, but I'm not a paying customer of theirs yet.
What do they do?
In 2 hours of making my call, I have two of their guys digging out my roof, at this time, my decision is made. I know I'm getting my new roof done by these guys.
So fast forward to the beginning of October. I call them we figure out the next steps, they stand behind and honor their almost 1 year old quote... and help take this roofing novice through the process and help answer all of my questions.
They secured my financing, (a great price even made better, with this option) they made it very convenient on a date, and they stayed in constant communication throughout the whole process. They assisted me by going beyond what they normally offer and by contacting and securing a carpenter to replace siding, to maximize the work being done.
Today, I have a great looking NEW ROOF, a driveway and work area that they cleaned and treated like it was there own, and probably the best to come out of it..

Deciding to vinyl side my home was a year long process. I interviewed many contractors during this time and had many estimates before choosing Scott Roofing Services. The prior contractors either never showed up or gave me incredibly low cost offers never explaining to me the differences in quality of the siding, the various choices or even the right choices that needed based on the condition of my home. That all changed when I came upon Scott Roofing Services. Steve did an exceptional job at explaining the different grades of siding as well as the best procedure for siding my home. Turns out there were a few different ways to go and each of these was explained in fullest detail. The crew did an exceptional and very meticulous job. They always cleaned up and were very respectful and careful when applying the siding around my windows and doors so that they did not get scratched. Each guy was extremely knowledgeable and paid meticulous detail to the work at hand. I am totally pleased with the quality of their work. At this present time, a little overdue, our family has been able to review all of our utility statements and have confirmed that having this new roof installed is the best investment we could have made. We have elected to have Scott Roofing Services do the contract as proposed. While it was not the best price our decision was based upon your presentation and the detailed work process.... Your presentation this noon gave us confidence in you and your company.

It was a particularly harsh winter. We endured ice dams where we we had none before, and leaks in a number of rooms causing damage and inconvenience. We knew that it was time for us to do something with the roof. My wife's brother had Scotts Roofing out the year before for an asphalt replacement roof, and they experienced none of the difficulties I mentioned. Of course, we all had to roof rake, but no leaks. Based on this, we decided that Scotts Roofing would be one of the contenders for our business and we scheduled a meeting for a quotation with the intent of replacing the roof with asphalt.

We were impressed in our first meeting with the Scotts Team in how they approached us. They were very interested in the problems we had faced, and on first making sure that we resolved any issues related to the health of the roof, i.e. ventilation and anything else that might cause the roof to fail sooner than expected. They made sure to tell us that whatever product we chose, any underlying issues with the roof would first be dealt with to make sure we get the best value possible.

In order to combat ice dams and leaks we had employed a number of roof wires across the roof. Because the back of the house didn't get much sun, we also had to position wires in less desirable locations, i.e. the back facing gambrel shingles which, due to run off and the dormer seemed to be a collection point for ice to form. The wires were unsightly, but necessary and when larger ice formed, the ice would pull down the wires causing me to have to attempt to rehang them in the middle of winter.

As we began discussing the various product offerings, we talked about the tradeoffs between asphalt and metal roofs. For asphalt:

    We had multiple layers of asphalt on the roof and this would require ripping the old shingles off, an added expense.

    With asphalt, we would still require the roof wires. In addition to remembering to turn them on and off, rehanging them, etc. the roof wires hang on the edges of the shingles. Over time, they cause wear and tear on the shingles, reducing their effective life. There is a small electrical runtime expense.

    We noticed under the windows, and where the ice dams formed, the ice was causing shingle damage, again reducing the effective life of the system.

    The maximum life of asphalt in our experience has been less than the advertised lifetime. We anticipated < 20 years if we chose this for our roof.

For metal:

    Metal roofs are more expensive from a material and install perspective.

    We wouldn't have to rely on roof wires.

    They look good on day 1, and stay that way.

    They have a lifetime warranty of the house, that is transferable. Scotts fixes it if its broke and its covered.

    Because they can go over the existing roof, we didn't need to rip the old roof providing an added insulation benefit.

    No ripping means the installation doesn't have the same mess and debris.

What it came down to:

    I wanted my wife and I to have the peace of mind knowing we won't have to do this again.

    Minimize leak and ice dams risk.

    Eliminate roof wires.

    No ripping of old shingles.

    It looks excellent on our roof.
